Oh yeah...the title!

Yes, I know. My countdown for Fiction Family is now complete, and yes, the rumors are true, the ALBUM HAS BEEN RELEASED--and if you are un-hip like me, you haven't bought it yet. I strongly suggest that everyone who reads this should go buy the album though...even if you like being un-hip, cuz pretty soon I'm going to collapse to peer pressure and buy it myself, so you can lose your un-hipness with me (if that consoles you any).

want reviews?
Those who have eased into a level of comfortable enjoyment of Jon Foreman’s
solo projects and Watkins’ bluegrass repertoire may be caught off guard by the
duo’s progressive departure from the predictable. Those looking for Switchfoot
meets Nickel Creek will be disappointed. This is truly a profound exploration
deep into the creative wells of two tremendously inventive and forward-thinking
songwriters. Fiction Family is genius. It’s progressive without being high-brow,
laid-back but fearless.

Of course, there are not-so-nice reviews out there. So, if you want to read them you shouldn't too hard of a time finding them.

The un-hip list

Being un-cool, un-hip, etc is a sort of goal for me. I'm extremely sensitive to peer pressure in some ways, but in others I love the idea of being the exact opposite of whatever is fashionable...to be so totally not cool that people can spot it from miles away...heh heh. So I created a list of things to do so one can be considered the most "blank-ity blank un-hip person you ever knew."

1. When you see a group of people who think rap music is the absolute jam, walk over with a totally-not-rap-like-swagger and say, "Yo, I like Steve Taylor."

2. If mini skirts and tights are in,wear skirts that go past your knees instead(for girls only).

3. If curly hair is in, straigten yours (and vice versa).

4. When all your girl chums are mooning over the Jonas Brothers, insist that their singer has such a bad voice that your poor [insert pet or younger sibling here] cries when the JoBros come on the radio.

5. When your friends think Linkin Park is the best rock band out there, walk up and timidly say "I think Sufjan Stevens is inspiring" (and if they make fun of you come talk to me and I will say that I think Stevens is pretty radtastic myself)

6. When skulls and crossbones are in style, wear butterflies and ants instead.

7. If all your friends decide to wear either totally red or totally blue on election day, show up with blue pants and a red shirt...you will probably annoy both parties (you could also wear a sweatshirt that advertises one candidate, and a hat that advertises the other).

8. When hip-hop dancing is in, learn how to do Scandinavian folk dances.

9. haha, listen to Christian music and tell people you like it (if you really want to be uncool, say you like old style CCM, like Michael W. Smith...that is, if you yourself can stand it)

10. Tell people you think Bono has one of best voices in the world and then tell them to listen to "Miracle Drug".

11. Announce to the entire world that you really don't like Coldplay, and that really famous song by them is really boring! (Viva La Vida)

The saddest thing is, I shall never be totally un-hip!(at least not on the LOBH boards) I just so happen to like Anberlin.

Christians and politics

"Once Christians were ignored or scorned; now they are courted by every savvy politician. Evangelicals especially are identified with a certain political stance, so much that the news media use the terms "evangelical" and "religious right" interchangeably. When I ask a stranger, "what is an evangelical Christian?" I get an answer something like this: "Someone who supports family values and opposes homosexual rights and abortion." This trend troubles me because the gospel of Jesus was not primarily a political platform. The issues that confront Christians in a secular society must be faced and addressed and legislated, and a democracy gives Christians every right to express themselves. But we dare not invest so much in the kingdom of this world that we neglect our main task of introducing people to a different kind of kingdom, one based solely on God's grace and forgiveness. Passing laws to enforce morality serves a necessary function, to dam up evil, but it never solves human problems. If a century from now all that historians can say about evangelicals of the 1990s is that they stood for family values, then we will have failed the mission Jesus gave us to accomplish: to communicate God's reconciling love to sinners." - Philip Yancey (The Jesus I Never Knew)

one of the most epic

this is possibly one of the most epic photographs I've seen. I don't know who took it...but it wasn't me!

*tra-la-la-la-la-la* (couldn't come up with a better title)

I thought I would write an update about randomness right now.

There is a little volume adjuster pop-up in the middle of my screen that WILL NOT GO AWAY.

Yesterday, I encountered a website that is run by a man who calls himself a Christian but argues that God does not exist and does not need to exist . . . I find that puzzling.

I am learning past tense in Spanish right now.

I hate math, and I especially hate linear graphing.

I have discovered Pieces of Flair on facebook and have managed to become addicted to it. (haven't decided if that's good or bad yet).

Fiction Family's debut album comes out on the 20th and I am stoked.

Fiction Family comes to SEATTLE on February 3rd, interested?

Watch the "Outtakes" (second down from the top, and while you're at it watch all of them)

There is a three day weekend coming up very soon :D

It is 8:56 and people are starting to mob the PUB (Pirate Union Building, and no they don't serve alcohol).

I have Spanish class at 10:00.

I miss bugging my friend during her office hour :(

I need to get off this 'uter and get something productive done.

Peace out brown trouts

The Butterfingers Conspiracy

Prologue
_______

I adore Butterfingers. Last night I was remembering the Butterfingers bar I had demolished at lunch time earlier that day, and as I was recalling the crunchy goodness, I had a shocking epiphany (or something like that). The Butterfingers I normally get are the "fun size" (you know the size were one is just not enough); well I've decided that whoever makes those "fun size" Butterfingers is involved in a global conspiracy!
_______________________________

Suppose I was on a Butterfingers craze, like if I was watching a Butterfingers ad on TV (you know the kind that is supposed to make you want to eat the product), so I really really want Butterfingers, and because I want them soooo bad I run to the grocery store and buy every single "fun size" Butterfingers bar in site. Then I take them all back in my moving van, I store them in the moving van, and every minute I eat a "fun size" Butterfingers bar until they are all gone (say I buy 10,000 bars, you do the math on how many days it takes to eat them all). Then, because I have eaten 10,000 Butterfingers, I am now extremely round and unhealthy, and then I start having heart problems because of all the fat and whatnot, so they rush me off to the hospital. When I'm at the hospital the doctors and nurses stick all their tubes and needles in me, and then before their very eyes, I morph into a gigantic Butterfingers bar. One of the nurses, the really mean one, leans out and scratches some of the chocolate off my face with her fingernail, and then licks it. I won't get into the exact details, but the doctors and nurses eat me--the great Butterfinger as I lay helplessly in the hospital bed.
______________________________

Epilogue
________

I never had the money to buy those 10,000 Butterfingers, I bought them on credit (and I rented the moving van on credit too in case you want to know). I never got around to paying for my hospital bills either because I was eaten, and I didn't have an funeral bills to pay because there was no corpse left. After the docters and nurses ate me, because I was such a large Butterfinger, they also became large and unhealthy and had heart problems and had to go to the hospital...and they may have been eaten too, but I don't really know because I was eaten by them.

THE END
