This is not a rant...though it could be

I'm feeling rather annoyed right now. Various reasons why, so I thought I would write a blog post to try to get over the annoyance without making this a illogical rant.

1. I'm in the PUB at my school, and they have played the same EXACT song at LEAST three times now, and its rather annoying...not that the song is annoying but it is becoming annoying because of the intense over-playing.

2. I have decided that there is nothing I dislike more in Christian music than cheesiness. There are way to many happy-clappy ditties about how God is love and how He loves everyone. Now, don't get the idea that I don't believe God is love, and that I don't believe He loves everyone--these songs just fit extremely well into the "family friendly"(which means childrens' music) and when I hear them I almost shudder because to me they are almost offensive. The very idea of making something as serious as God into a happy-clappy ditty that will be over-sung and over-played to the point that it will lose its meaning completely is just maddening. The music world would be so much better I think if it lost at least half as much of the useless cheesiness. I am known I suppose to enjoy music that other people find overly serious/depressing/dark/emo/etc, and I won't deny that for a second; personally I find it much more meaningful. Please understand that I'm not trying to be self-righteous or anything like that by saying this.

3. As the Fiction Family concert in Seattle comes closer, the more I really really wish I could go. *sobs* I'm trying not to think about it...

4. Now, the ASC is playing loud rap music (rap can be OK..it depends on the rapper)...I'm leaving in 7 minutes which is a good thing.

5. I do not understand the motivation behind both woman/men wearing pants that droop significantly, it just fails to compute in my brain.

Drooping pants?

I tend to believe that the sadder music typically has more meaning, but because those who write sad music normally continue to do so, it's not very good. The only reason for us to realize sad realities is so that we can see how God is good and how we can encourage others. We should only see and bring to our attention the sorrowful things so that we turn toward are more appreciative of the joyful things. Beware though: focusing on the plight of man can become addicting and depressing.
